MEET THE COACH
Dom Moore is about 47 years old and has been coaching ocean sports for 20 years and practising them for longer than that. Dom is an advovate of the sober lifestyle. He set up Natural Scientific is a side-business to capture and deliver his philosophy and practise of fitness which doesn’t necessarily fit into his main business, Surf Sanctuary.
Dom holds the industry-standard REPS Level 3 Personal Trainer diploma, and his unique approach is underpinned by a BSc (Hons) in Natural Sciences. This means Dom has the insight into the physics and neurological functions involved in training, and a clear, easy-to-follow scientific method.
As an individual of middle-years, Dom’s target audience is people over 35 years old who want to not only reclaim the strength and vitality of their former years but to confidently surpass it. This includes those interested in reevaluating their relationship with alcohol and considering the benefits of a sober lifestyle. With the right mindset, all of this is absolutely possible, and this is where your journey with Dom begins: establishing your deepest drives and value system. Once this is sorted, adherence and progress become automatic.
At Natural Scientific, you can expect functional fitness, quality movement, adventurous outdoor training and simple but powerful frameworks to anchor your sleep, nutrition and exercise. If the thought of hours in the gym on machines bores you, you are in good company because it bores us too. Instead, you will soon find the addictive joy of challenging yourself with novel movement and lifting patterns that benefit the brain and body.

When the mindset is idendified, the rest falls into place.
How much willpower do you need to sleep, eat, move, and train well? The answer is NONE. Willpower is for resisting things that are bad for you because you still want them. Once we understand that living well provides us with more rewards than 'living badly' ever could, we naturally gravitate towards healthy behaviours. Living well becomes our stable equilibrium that we effortlessly default to.
This comes from our MINDSET which drives the good decisions of our SKILLSET: our sleep, nutrition, movement and training. Once we have estblished frameworks for our skillset, we can tune our TOOLSET so that it includes things we like including food and types of exercise, and banishes soul-sapping diets and depressing exercise regimes.

At Natural Scientific we believe in the interplay between knowledge, fitness and technique. Just being aware of this synergy can reframe the way you approach training and motivate you to break out from boring exercise routines. It's true that exercise should challenge us mentally as much as physically - for it is the brain that moves the body.
As you learn more about exercise mecahnics and develop mental fortitude, your technqiue will improve. Strategies for training, diet and sleep will support your fitness development.
As you become fitter, cognitive function improves, and the brain becomes more plastic so we learn new things. It also releases BDNF, important for the growth of new neurons. Increased physical fitness allows for longer and higher intensity training which rapdily develops technique.
In turn, developing technique strengthens our cognitions by improving memory, problem solving and spatial awareness. It also allows us to move in new ways and do activities that used to be 'off limits'.
